15-year-old Chen Pin-an wins Asia Cup Archery bronze in Singapore

Taipei, June 20 (CNA) Taiwanese archer Chen Pin-an (陳品安), 15, won a bronze medal in the men's recurve event at the second leg of the 2025 Archery Asia Cup in Singapore on Friday.

Chen secured Taiwan's second medal at the tournament by defeating Japan's Yui Urata 6-2 in the bronze medal match, following a third-place finish by the men's recurve team on Wednesday.

Friday's result may come as a surprise given Chen's earlier struggles in the qualification round.

The teenager scored 648 points in qualifications, placing 22nd out of 54 competitors and ranking last among the four Taiwanese archers in the event. Urata, by contrast, ranked eighth with 662 points.

In the bronze medal match, the two archers were tied 2-2 after the first two sets. Chen then outscored Urata 29-26 and 28-27 in the next two sets to clinch the victory in four.

Kuo Chen-wei (郭振維), head coach of the Taiwan team, told CNA that Chen appeared nervous during the match, "probably because it was a medal match."

He credited the young archer with making key adjustments after the second set, adding that Chen has a bright future in the sport.

"He's only in his first year of high school. There's still a lot of room for growth," Kuo said.
