
Taipei, June 29 (CNA) Heavy rain was forecast for 11 counties and cities in Taiwan on Sunday afternoon, while the temperature hit 38.2 degrees Celsius in Taipei's Shilin District at 2 p.m., according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The weather agency issued a heavy rain alert at 2:55 p.m. for New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi City and County, Tainan, Pingtung, Hualien and Taitung.
It also issued an extremely heavy rain alert for Kaohsiung, with the effects expected to last through Sunday night.

Meanwhile, CWA data showed the temperature reached 38.2 degrees Celsius at the Shezi weather station in Taipei's Shilin District at 2 p.m., followed by 37.4 degrees at the nearby Science Education Center station at 1:40 p.m.
Taipei, New Taipei and Yuanlin City in Changhua County all recorded temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius before 3 p.m. Sunday, making them the hottest urban areas in Taiwan that day.
