Taipei, June 9 (CNA) Taichung's Tune & Turn Design and Strategy (Tunenturn LTD.) has won a 2025 iF Product Design Award for creating a biodegradable mulching film using pineapple farming waste.
According to Tuneturn, the mulching film commissioned by Taichung fiber company Eason reflected the cradle-to-cradle (C2C) concept that serves as the design firm's mission statement.
The film has a wide range of applications, such as crop-covering tarps and bags, the company said on its website.
The mulching film was recognized in the Service category by the annual awards organized by Germany's iF International Forum Design.
This year, Taiwan won with 369 products spanning seven disciplines and 49 subcategories, of which Taiwan's TPV Technology Group won the country's only gold award for its electronic paper vision tester.
Tune & Turn Design and Strategy was founded by married couple Chu Yang-chan (褚仰展) and Hsu Wei-ting (許瑋庭).
The company said it aims to care for the environment by creating biodegradable plant fiber products to reduce carbon footprints.
The company's application of eco-friendly concepts extends into sectors including social impact, service designs, beauty packaging and children's products.
According to Chu, while it is pricier to choose organic plant-based raw materials, it is worthwhile considering environmental benefits.
Aside from using plant fibers created from wastes such as pineapples, corn cobs and coconut shells, Tunenturn also engineers products using bamboo wastes, including mugs and dental floss.
